Returning Heroes

Last October, I finished my first go at a victorian ballgown with excellent results and about 4 or 5 yards remaining of bubblegum pink silk taffeta. I wore this gown to The Commonwealth Vintage Dancers' holiday ball in December and subsequently attended their Regency Ball in February where I was convinced to attend their Civil War era, only costume required event in March. Initially I had held off on attending as my first gown is much more 1840s, with the slim sleeves and long pointed bodice, but I was roped in to attending by several of the lovely ladies who run the group.

End to a long day

So I had my first real day of classes today (as in multiple classes that I am actually intending on taking).  I started my material culture class today, which seems somewhat promising, except that it will be taught like a lecture in art history and very little of it will be about historic dress. Neither of which I am totally thrilled about, but will deal with. I also had my musical theater jazz class today which was excellent, except now I am very tired and a bit sore. We are starting with a Fosse style piece choreographed to "Two Lost Souls" from Damn Yankees (which I know little about). The grad student who is teaching it also announced that we would be working mainly in character shoes, so I'll have to go on an adventure to find a pair this weekend. I have never owned a pair of character shoes that actually fit me well, so this will be a fun adventure.

Tomorrow, I'm planning to go back and talk to my advisor about the special studies and hopefully solidify things before online registration ends. Good night!

Sneak peek

I can't really advertise the Leading Ladies' spring show, considering we have not been confirmed yet, but I can say that the revue fell through and we are in the process of finding another show. We have a director and assistant director (as well as 2 costume heads - myself and one of the seniors), we just need to hear back from Tams-Witmark about getting the rights. Hopefully we'll know by mid-week, but here's something to tide you over.

It's the most wonderful time of the year?

Well it seems to be for most people with holiday shopping and tree decorating, but for college students it means cramming for finals, booking plane and bus tickets, and cramming enough stuff for 3 weeks home into a tiny suitcase. And I am no exception. My last day of classes is in a couple days, then we have "reading period" where we get time to study and finish our finals. I lucked out a bit this semester, with only 2 finals during finals period - a math take-home test and a costume design project. I presented my dance powerpoint about Agnes deMille on Wednesday and I will pass in my Shakespeare paper on Tuesday. So I just have to do 8 full color designs (complete with images and swatches) for characters from A Midsummer Night's Dream, 10 re-drawings of historical clothing, 2 performance reviews of performances I saw this semester and a director's letter about my designs. I guess it could be about 100 times worse, I'm just having trouble motivating my self to work.
