Out with the Old, In with…the Old?

After a nice vacation and a decidedly undecided hurricane (which luckily only left lots of branches and minor power outages in my hometown, but no internet and landlines for my house), I figured it was time to go through my bedroom and purge all of the unnecessary contents. Now at first glance, I don't look like someone who is messy - I try to be quite organized with important things. But, my room and sewing areas are typically disaster zones when I try to keep them clean. Which is why a yearly purge is usually good for me to keep things under control.

I generally start with my closet, which is always overloaded with numerous clothing items, both worn and unworn. I take my time to go through each drawer, sort into style of item and put it back in the drawer or throw it in a bag for donation. This time I also managed to sort my dance clothes and shoes into a separate drawer, as well as sort my hanging items (sweaters, shirts, costumes, dresses) and tackle all the dust bunnies living under my closet system. Hallelujah! It feels good to get that sucker cleaned out after a full year of not using it.
All pretty and organized by type of item

As well as cleaning out my room, I also have photos of my finished 30's blouse - finally! I finished it before I left on vacation, but didn't have time to take reasonable photos of it. My bad. I just took these quickly in my room, as well as a silly little video which shows how it moves (which I will post once my internet is fully up and running).

Voila! The blouse is finished! It's hard to see in the light, but it has two breast pockets and green plastic buttons. It fits quite nicely and is very sturdy with the cotton lining underneath. I keep forgetting that I still have another length of green cotton sateen to make another skirt with, but we'll see if it gets finished before I leave for school.

Also my henna came in the mail yesterday, so I'm going red again!
